چکیده

The efficiency of a coherent VUV source at 125 nm, based on 2-photon resonant four-wave mixing in mercury vapor, has been enhanced by up to 2 orders of magnitude. This enhancement was obtained by locally heating a liquid Hg surface with a pulsed excimer laser, resulting in a high density vapor plume in which the nonlinear interaction occurred. Energies up to 5 μJ (1 kW peak power) have been achieved while keeping the overall Hg cell at room temperature, avoiding the use of a complex heat pipe. We have observed a strong saturation of the VUV yield when peak power densities of the fundamental beams exceed the GW/cm range, as well as a large intensity-dependant broadening (up to ~30 cm) of the two-photon resonance. The source has potential applications for high resolution interference lithography and photochemistry. PACS: 42.65.Ky ; 52.38.Mf

A very convenient setup to generate intense VUV coherent light at 125 nm with use of nonlinear effects in mercury vapor at room temperature

Using only one dye laser, efficient generation of VUV radiation (10 photons/pulse) is demonstrated at 125.140 nm and 125.053 nm by four-wave sum-frequency mixing in a room-temperature mercury vapor. The emission at 125.053 nm, which is out of twophoton resonance but near three-photon resonance, has been observed for the first time and is carefully analyzed. In particular, numerical calculations...

Generation of high-brightness coherent radiation in the vacuum ultraviolet by four-wave parametric oscillation in mercury vapor.

Coherent radiation at several wavelengths in the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) has been generated by four-wave parametric oscillation in mercury vapor. When a powerful ultraviolet pump laser of frequency omega(p) is tuned to a two-photon resonance, VUV signal photons at frequency omega(s), as well as idler photons at frequency omega(i), are generated such that omega(s) + omega(i) = 2omega(p). A freq...

Experimental arrangements developed by research groups in Palaiseau, Bielefeld, Chicago and Berkeley-Stanford are briefly presented. They lead to the generation of coherent and tunable VUV/XUV radiation by nonlinear optical method?. The choice is representative from the point of view of the specificity of the setups and the results obtained. Besides carbon monoxide (see the article by Vallde, H...

Optical Limiting Properties of Colloids Enhanced by Gold Nanoparticles Based on Nonlinear Refraction for Cw Laser Illumination

In this work, thermo-optical properties of gold nanoparticle colloids are studied using continuous wave (CW) laser irradiation at 532 nm. The nanoparticle colloids are fabricated by 18 ns pulsed laser ablation of pure gold plate in the distilled water. The formation of the nanoparticles has been evidenced by optical absorption spectra and transmission electron microscopy. The nonlinear optical ...

Generation of coherent cw radiation tunable from 211 nm to 216 nm.

Many spectroscopic studies require a source of coherent cw radiation tunable in the uv. Continuous wave radiation in the 257-360-nm range has been generated by sum frequency mixing, in potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP) and its isomorphs, selected output lines from an argon or krypton ion laser with the output of a cw dye laser. Recent studies of mixing in potassium pentaborate (KB5) using pu...
